BrandTable Design Report

Over the past month, results from the BrandTable research have been collated and presented in the following report. To show further uses of NFC, the report was created to pull digital content from the research whilst viewing the printed publication. This concept shows how mixed media can be represented as one product for a unique and effective viewing experience.

NFC Brand Table

Brand Table is a product designed initially for shopping center food courts that takes in an order via a mobile device in where item selection and payment will occur. 

Brand Table uses NFC technology along with Java and the Android SDK to pull a menu for a restaurant upon contact with one of the specially designed Brand Stickers (to be placed on the table). This method should provide a low cost and tangible experience in where one can order a meal via mobile payments.

Some benefits include:

  • Ordering on the go
  • Not having to line up
  • No Cash needed

Brand Table was created for ongoing research in mobile payments in conjunction with the University of Sydney,Mojo and Amnesia Razorfish. Please watch the video above for further demonstration.

Usability Tests

Development in an application for Carpooling has been taking place for the past month or so. The primary aim is to discover how smartphone users feel about sharing thier vehicle with other people. Questions relating to financial incentives and mutually beneficial friendships are being raised so usabilty tests have been issued to determine such concerns.

Flo Prototype 1 Complete

The Flo concept aims to track a human figure and represent it on screen as an electric outline. Methods of interaction include:

Idle - When no figure is present the screen will show nothing

Tracked - When a figure is tracked, thier outline will be displayed as an electric silouette

Collision - When one figure collides with another figure, then the colours switch and an energy explosion occurs
